Having a website built: a site with a clear purpose

Having a website built by Der-H Medien: concept, design, copy and technology. Fast, mobile-friendly, privacy-conscious and easy to find. Nationwide.

Web design

Websites: what exactly are they?

A company website is your digital headquarters: it presents your services, builds trust and leads visitors to an action, for example a call, an enquiry or a purchase. It is available around the clock and is often the first contact a prospect has with you.

A good website is not an end in itself but a tool with a purpose. It is fast, works just as well on a phone as on a computer, is clearly written, technically sound and readable for search engines and AI assistants. All of this helps decide whether visitors stay and whether you are found.

We build websites in four steps: concept (goal, target group, structure), design (according to your brand), content (copy, images) and implementation including testing. We think about findability, data protection and speed from the start, rather than adding them at the end.

Background

Websites: why it matters.

Your website is often the first contact, and it is available around the clock. It helps decide whether a prospect calls you or goes to a competitor.

A site that looks good but has no purpose achieves little. That is why we start with the question of what visitors should do, and build everything on that.

Overview

Websites: building blocks and variants.

Business card website

A few pages: who you are, what you offer, how to reach you. For the self-employed and small businesses.

Several pages for services, references, team, guides and contact. The standard for medium-sized businesses.

Service and topic pages

Separate pages for each service and topic, which speak directly to searchers and are easy to find.

Guides and blog

Useful content that builds trust and helps in search.

Multilingual sites

For customers in several countries or languages, with a clean technical separation.

Customer areas and functions

Appointment booking, downloads, forms, connection to your systems.

Findability

Clean structure, headings, descriptions and structured data.

Quality

Websites: how to recognise good work.

  • The home page says within a few seconds what you do and for whom
  • The next step (call, enquiry) is easy to find everywhere
  • The site loads quickly, on mobile too
  • Copy is written from the customer's point of view
  • Legal notice and privacy policy are present and up to date
  • Every page has its own title, a description and exactly one main heading
  • Images have alt text
  • No third-party services are embedded without need
Costs

Websites: what it costs.

There is no flat rate. A simple business card site is a much smaller project than a company website with many topic pages or an online shop. What matters is the scope, how individual the design is and the amount of content that has to be developed.

The calculation behind it: how we price our work.

What determines the price

  • Number of pages and functions
  • Individual design or an adapted template
  • Copy and images: supplied by you or created for you
  • Technical special features (interfaces, multilingual set-up)
  • Search engine and AI optimisation
  • Support after launch

What you can prepare

  • Your goals: what should the website achieve?
  • Examples of sites you like, and why
  • Existing copy, images, logo and documents
  • Access to your existing website, domain and email
  • Who in your organisation checks and approves content
Pitfalls

Websites: common mistakes.

  • A site written from the company's point of view instead of the customer's
  • No clear call to action
  • Large images that load slowly
  • Legal notice and privacy policy forgotten or out of date
